借自荷蘭語 pompelmoes。進一步的詞源不確定，但前兩個音節可能來自荷蘭語過時名詞 pompel (“矮胖的东西”)，可對比德語 pummelig。以前也使用過 Pompelmuse 的形式；-a- 可能是受法語 pamplemousse 的影響而插入，法語詞亦來自荷蘭語。
